How far is the head spa from Sammamish? 6.8 miles.
6.8 miles, and about 16 minutes off-peak. From the middle of the plateau you come down 228th Ave SE and drop into Olde Town on Highlands Drive. The route crosses the Exit 18 interchange without joining the freeway, which is what separates this drive from every other city on the table below.
The route off the plateau
228th Ave SE does most of the work. It carries the plateau south, and Highlands Drive takes over for the last stretch downhill to E Sunset Way, crossing over I-90 at the Exit 18 interchange. That crossing is the only point where the freeway enters the drive at all, so a backup on I-90 costs a plateau booking nothing.
What the afternoon peak does to it
Very little. WSDOT's corridor measurements put eastbound I-90 between Bellevue and Issaquah at 17 minutes on average in the PM peak, and 21 minutes on the worst trip in twenty, against 9 minutes at the posted speed. Sammamish never enters that corridor. Allow a few extra minutes for the plateau's own commute traffic and a 4 PM appointment still starts on time.
Guests coming from Bellevue, Mercer Island, Newcastle or Seattle all arrive eastbound through that stretch and should add 8 to 12 minutes to a late-afternoon booking. From the plateau, the number in the table holds.

What happens during a head spa at Aura? Camera first.
Every head spa here opens with a digital scalp analysis. A camera magnifies a patch of your scalp onto a monitor beside the bed, and you see it before anything is chosen. An oily scalp with product sitting between the follicles wants the opposite of what a tight, flaking part line wants, and hair type on its own is a poor guide to which you have.
The scalp analysis guide covers what shows up on the screen. A 60-minute session then runs in this order:
- Scalp analysis on the monitor, with the products for the session picked from what it shows.
- Two shampoos — the first lifts styling product and sunscreen, the second reaches skin.
- The scalp massage, which is the longest stage and carries on into the neck and shoulders.
- The reclined warm-water rinse at the basin.
- A treatment mask matched to the scalp reading, then a blow-dry.
The rinse at the basin
You stay reclined for it. Warm water comes down through your hair from the ring above the basin for about 10 minutes of a 60-minute session, at roughly bath temperature. Nothing tips forward, your head rests in the basin the whole time, and your face and collar stay dry.
The one format that never wets your hair
The 30-minute TCM Head Aromatherapy, $50. It works oil, pressure and aroma into a dry scalp and skips the wash entirely, which makes it the lunch-break option and the only item on the menu that leaves the basin out. Everything from 45 minutes up finishes with a blow-dry. The stage-by-stage guide walks through a full session.

Which treatment should a first visit be? Start with the 45.
The 45-minute Classic Head Spa, $78. It runs the full sequence — analysis, double cleanse, scalp care, shoulders, blow-dry — without handing over a whole evening to it. Book at 6 PM and the 45 minutes are finished a little before seven. The head spa page sets out all eight formats with their durations.
If the neck and shoulders are the real problem
Take a package. Neck & Shoulder Massage + Head Spa is $140 for 90 minutes and splits into 30 minutes of shoulder and back work followed by a full 60-minute session at the basin. The Midweek Healing Package, $148, runs three 30-minute stages: shoulders, facial, scalp. All seven combinations sit on the packages page.
What it costs
Head spa runs $50 to $150, facials $80 to $138, massage $60 to $135, and the packages $120 to $168. The menu below carries every line with its duration, and the pricing page carries the same figures for the rest of the studio.

Can you fit it into a weekday evening? Open until 8.
Yes. Aura is open 9 AM to 8 PM every day, Sunday included, so a 6 PM booking from the plateau works without moving the afternoon around. Leave Sammamish at about 5:40 and you arrive with a few minutes to settle before the camera comes out.
The wet half of the year
Issaquah's wet season runs October through April, and November is the heaviest month at 10.12 inches out of 62 inches across the year. Come with your hair as it is — the camera reads a scalp better when it has not just been washed — and every format from 45 minutes up sends you back out with it dry.
Booking, and finding the door
Booking is online through Square, or by text to (206) 552-4799; the same line takes calls. The marker on arrival is the curbside monument sign on E Sunset Way carrying two names, House of Layo and Aura Beauty. The studio is a converted house about a third of a mile east of Front Street, so the shopfronts run out before you reach it.
Book a time, or read what a first visit involves before you do.

When should you see a doctor first? Before booking.
If hair is coming out in patches, if the scalp is sore, bleeding or crusting, or if flaking has not settled with an over-the-counter shampoo, see a dermatologist before you book. Any sudden change you cannot account for belongs in the same list. A head spa is a beauty and relaxation service, and it does not diagnose, treat or cure anything.
See the doctor first and then come to us — the two work well together, and the hour of quiet is still there once you have an answer. Color-treated hair is a different question, and the answer to that one is yes: tell your therapist when your last color appointment was so products can be chosen around it.
What the session offers is a clean scalp and 30 to 90 minutes with no phone in your hand. NCCIH groups massage with meditation and relaxation training among the approaches studied for stress, and Mayo Clinic's guidance on relaxation techniques puts hands-on work in the same category as breathing and meditation. Neither of those is a promise about hair growth.
