What happens in a head spa here?

What does a head spa include?
Scalp analysis on a monitor, a double shampoo cleanse, a long scalp and shoulder massage, a reclined warm-water rinse at the basin, a scalp treatment and a blow-dry. The 30-minute TCM Head Aromatherapy at $50 is the exception — oil and massage on a dry scalp, no wash.

How long does a head spa take?
Between 30 and 90 minutes, across eight formats. The Classic is 45 minutes at $78, the Signature 60 at $90, and the two longest run 90 minutes at $150 — their extra half hour goes into the scalp work, with hot steam on one and an essence infusion on the other.

Do I need to wash my hair before I come?
No. Your scalp is easier to read in its ordinary state, and the deep cleanse is the part you are paying for. Come straight from the gym or a week of dry shampoo — the second shampoo exists for what a home wash leaves behind.

Will I leave with wet hair?
No. Every head spa from 45 minutes up ends with a blow-dry, so a 7 PM booking in February does not send you back out into the rain with a wet head. The 30-minute TCM Head Aromatherapy never wets your hair at all.

What does the scalp analysis show, and what can it not tell me?
A handheld camera magnifies one patch of your scalp onto a monitor, and you watch it at the same moment your therapist does — oil between the follicles, flaking along a part line, product residue. It picks the products for the next hour, and it is a beauty assessment that diagnoses nothing; the guide covers what the camera cannot see.

What if your scalp needs something specific?

Is a head spa safe for color-treated hair?
Yes, and a common reason people book. Tell your therapist when your last color was so the products can be chosen around it. The 90-minute Luxury Milbon Restorative Head Spa at $150 adds hot steam and a bonding treatment for hair that has been bleached or heat-styled hard.

How often should I come back?
Every four to six weeks suits most people, and a single appointment on its own is a perfectly good thing to book. A scalp carrying months of buildup sometimes starts with two or three sessions a few weeks apart, then stretches out.

My scalp flakes and my hair is thinning — should I book?
See a dermatologist first, then book — they work well together. Hair coming out in patches, a scalp that is sore, bleeding or crusting, and flaking that has not settled with over-the-counter treatment all belong with a doctor. A head spa is a beauty service; it does not diagnose, treat or cure anything.

Do you do head spas for men?
Yes — two packages are built around it, both $120 for 60 minutes: Upper Shoulder Massage with a head spa, or with a gua sha facial. Everything else is open to anyone. See head spa for men.

Which head spa suits an oily scalp?
The Chinese Herb Scalp Ritual, $100 for 60 minutes, is built for scalps that turn greasy by the second day. For a scalp that feels tight or tires easily, the Signature Ginger Scalp Ritual is the warming one at the same $100 — the dry scalp guide has the rest.

What does a head spa cost here?

Between $50 and $150, across eight formats. The 30-minute TCM Head Aromatherapy sets the floor at $50, the two 90-minute rituals the ceiling at $150, and the 45-minute Classic at $78 is the shortest one that carries both the wash and the blow-dry. Facials, massage and the packages are priced separately.

Which one should a first visit be?

The 45-minute Classic at $78. It runs all six stages — analysis, double cleanse, scalp and shoulder massage, warm-water rinse, scalp treatment, blow-dry — and it is the shortest format carrying both the wash and the dry. If the massage is why you are coming, the 60-minute Signature at $90 adds exfoliation and a longer neck stretch.

Do the packages work out cheaper?

Often, and the menu shows the arithmetic. Gua Sha Facial & Head Spa is $160 for 90 minutes, where the 30-minute facial at $80 and the 60-minute Signature at $90 booked apart come to $170. Neck & Shoulder Massage + Head Spa is $140 against $150 for the same two halves.

The Midweek Healing Package runs $148 for 90 minutes across three stages — shoulders, facial, then head spa. The even 45-plus-45 split of facial and scalp is $168, the top of the package list, and the two Male packages sit at $120 for 60 minutes.

How long is the drive from Bellevue or Sammamish?

About 19 minutes from Bellevue and about 16 from Sammamish, off-peak. Anything arriving eastbound on I-90 — Seattle, Mercer Island, Bellevue, Newcastle, Kirkland, Renton — wants another 8 to 12 minutes between 3 and 7 PM. Sammamish never touches the freeway and barely moves.

What does the block look like?

A converted house on a tree-lined stretch of E Sunset Way, sharing its site and its curbside sign with House of Layo. This is Olde Town: the shops on Front Street are about a third of a mile west, a 7 to 9 minute walk on the flat. The retail strip on NW Gilman Blvd is a different part of town, on the far side of I-90.

When is the drive worst?

Between 3 and 7 PM, eastbound. WSDOT measured the I-90 Bellevue–Issaquah corridor at 17 minutes on average through the afternoon peak and 21 at the 95th percentile, against 9 at the posted speed. A morning or early-afternoon appointment misses all of it, and so does arriving from Sammamish, which never joins the freeway.

Look for the sign, not a shopfront

  1. Come off I-90 at Exit 18 and follow E Sunset Way east. We are about a third of a mile past Front Street, on a block of converted houses.
  2. Watch the curb for a dark monument sign reading House of Layo and Aura Beauty. We share the site with the salon, so that sign is the landmark.
  3. Come a few minutes early on a first visit — there is tea by the fireplace, and your head spa starts with a look at your scalp on the monitor.

How do you book, and when are you open?

How do I book an appointment?
Online through Square, at any hour — the booking page lists all 23 services with their prices and shows the times still open. Calling or texting (206) 552-4799 suits anyone who would sooner describe their scalp and let us choose the format. The booking page has both.

Are you open in the evening and at weekends?
Every day, 9 AM to 8 PM, with no weekend variation and no shorter Sunday. A Saturday morning, a Tuesday lunch hour and a weekday evening after work are all ordinary bookings.

Can I ask a question before I book?

Do you sell gift cards?
Yes, ordered through Square — the same system the bookings run on, and the terms shown at its checkout are the ones that apply. For scale: $78 is the 45-minute Classic, $120 the Aura Scalp Treatment with a mini facial, $150 either 90-minute ritual. The gift card page has the link.

Do you speak Chinese?
Yes — English and Mandarin. The consultation, the scalp analysis and the booking can all happen in Chinese from first message to the blow-dry.
