What should you look for in a head spa? Four checks.
Four things, and all four are on the menu before you book. A basin you lie back in, a camera that shows you your own scalp, a therapist who tells you what was on the screen, and enough minutes for the massage to go somewhere. Anything sold as a head spa that is missing the first two is a shampoo with a better name.
- A basin with a reclined rinse. You lie down and warm water runs through your hair from a ring above the basin, for minutes at a stretch. Sitting up at a salon sink is a different treatment.

Does a specialist menu matter?
It buys you choice. Aura lists 8 scalp formats between $50 and $150, so a 30-minute dry aromatherapy and a 90-minute Milbon treatment for over-processed hair are both on the same menu, and the choice comes down to how much time you have that day. How does Aura's price compare nearby? Two readings.
Two different answers, depending on how wide you draw the circle. Inside Issaquah, $90 for 60 minutes is $50 under the only other basin head spa in town, and $150 for 90 minutes is $35 under it. Draw the circle out to the rest of the Eastside and dedicated studios in Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland list 60 minutes between $68 and $88, which puts $90 a little over the top of that band. What the $90 covers is the part worth comparing. Scalp analysis on the monitor comes with every session here, never as a $30 extra, and the rinse is reclined at the basin. The blow-dry is included from 45 minutes up, so a 6 PM booking in November does not send you out into the 10.12 inches of rain that month averages.
What about the packages?
They are the cheaper way to do two things in one visit. How do you find the studio on E Sunset Way? Look for the sign.
Look for the curbside monument sign reading House of Layo and Aura Beauty — the studio is a converted house and shares that sign with the salon next door. Driving in, take I-90 Exit 18 for E Sunset Way and Highlands Drive, then head east. From the Front Street shops it is a 7 to 9 minute walk on the flat.
Sammamish comes down 228th and Highlands Drive in about 16 minutes without touching the freeway. Bellevue and Mercer Island are about 19 and 18 minutes off-peak, but WSDOT's 2024 data put the eastbound Bellevue–Issaquah corridor at 17 minutes on average in the PM peak and 21 at the 95th percentile, against 9 at the posted speed. For a late-afternoon arrival from the west, add 8 to 12 minutes.
When can you book?
Any day, 9 AM to 8 PM, with no weekend variation in the hours.
